Is it possible to consider the “pretend play” a useful tool for the development of a meaningful relationship between child and adult? This work traces the theories about the construct of symbolic game, starting from the consideration of the importance that it plays in the psychophysical development of the child. It explores its function in an innovative methodology in the work with preschoolers, that integrates mind and body: the playfulness. Pretend playing during a dance class may seem distant from what constitutes academicism and discipline. However, discovering the possibility of inventing through creative action and learning by playing, allows the child to research the quality of the movement by enriching his own body language.
The paper is based on the story of a concrete experience of application of this methodology with a child with considerable relational difficulties. It, therefore, comes to the consideration that putting on stage moods, emotions and anxiety, allows the child to elaborate what appears to be unknown, thanks to the support of an adult who captures the emotion experience moving the staging, re-elaborating and returning it in a more understandable way to the child.
