Author presents a clinical outline of a case related to an ADHD diagnosis of a seven - year old child within a broken home. Starting from ADHD symptoms, the clinical work was, therefore, focused on the parenthood roles in the separated family taking into account the unmet needs of the child in this difficult context. The therapeutic strategy, integrated by some mediation manoeuvres, was aimed to guarantee a psychological wellbeing for the child working, at the same time, on the individuality of mum and dad toward a more conscious parenthood. The parents were helped to wonder about parenthood as new experience in a comparison with the internal world of each; a parenting training, urged by the child, that was conquered over time . Each parent would have needed the recognition of their child in order to feel himself as such, through a monitoring of the parenting functions. So, was useful for the therapists to focus on fundamental themes, essential for the well-being of the child, as well as for the promotion of an affective agreement beyond the conflictual separation. An overall assessment of the case and treatment is summarized.
