ABSTRACT
This article introduces a classification model for the different types of family systems. Its usefulness applies to both the clinical and the research field. Family bodies are crossed by a polymorphy - influenced by contemporary demographic and cultural changes - which make them increasingly difficult to codify. The different models already present in literature, although exhaustive and complex, do not eliminate ambiguity and confusions related to the representation of family reality and its complexity. Pentagonal Categorization, structured over five categories and fifteen variables, tries to provide a classification tool built on monothetic classes.
