Abstract

Today, talking about the family means entering a complex world, in constant movement: roles change, meanings are rewritten, sometimes even from one generation to the next. In this article, we try to look at the family as a living organism, made up of bonds, memories and stories that intertwine and that, over time, build identity — not only of the individual, but of the community. Role-playing, in this sense, is not just a technique: it is a lens. A chance to enter into these dynamics, explore them, stage them. Whether it's in a therapy room, a training room, or a therapeutic team, it can reveal a lot about what goes on ‘behind the scenes’ of a family. Through the experience of ‘The thread between generations’, carried out during a psychotherapy training, we will show how role-playing can serve as a practical tool to delve into the constructs of the systemic relational model, particularly Eugenia Scabini's theory, offering an operational key to understanding family ties and their evolutionary impact.
